Fly Fishing the Huron River at Tubbs Road Bridge

It was a wonderful evening of fishing on the Huron near the old “Tubbs Road Bridge” today. A bit tough wading with all the rocks, but not bad if you take it slow. I saw a few good size smallies swim past, and several jumpers, but only managed to hook two and land one – both on #10 brown and black dry flies. It was fun watching the kayakers try to go back up the rapids. I never saw any of them actually succeed. A very peaceful evening, in spite of seeing multiple fly-fishers vehicles.

Moore Lake Sunset - Highland State Recreation Area June 2011

Moore Lake is covered in Lilly Pads, so it would not be easy to fish – but there is a nice DNR boat launch on it. I wonder if there is anything but vegetation in the lake?  Does anyone know? www.hookandbullet.com reports that there are Panfish, Bluegill, and Carp in the lake.  Sunset, Moore Lake, Highland State Recreation Area -  June 2011

Edsel Ford Barn June 2011

Edsel_ford_barn-800

This Highland Township barn, built in the 1920’s by Edsel Ford, was “Michigan Barn of the Year” in 2008. It was supposedly the largest barn in Michigan at one time. Three Fourths of the structure was destroyed by 80 MPH winds in 2009, shortly after it’s renovation was begun by the Friends of Highland State Recreation Area. The picture shows how it stands as of today, after a massive clean-up. Just a piece of local history, but somewhat interesting to me.  For a photo of what it looked like before the storm, look here: http://www.mibarn.net/2008%20Edsel%20Ford%20Barn.htm
