Tubbs Road Bridge, Scio Township Michigan, July 26, 2010

The "Tubbs Road Bridge" area - between Barton Pond and Delhi Metropark
actually no longer has a "Tubbs Road Bridge." You can see the remains of a
bridge in a couple of these photos. The modern bridge showing is actually a
bridge on Huron River Drive. This is a popular destination for Smallmouth
Bass fly-fishers. It is wide, shallow enough to wade, has a Gravel Bottom,
and is fairly quick moving. While scouting I spotted an angler catch a
couple of bluegills, but no bass. Maybe they only come out at night. Like
Vampires. Vampire Bass.

Fuller Park, Ann Arbor MI, July 26, 2010

Fuller Park is a beautiful park on the Huron River in Ann Arbor Michigan.
The water here is somewhat high and fast due to recent rains. My walk here
was invigorating!

University of Michigan Hospital, July 26, 2010

The University Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan is 1,796,262 square feet, 11
stories tall and has 550 beds. When added to all the other hospitals and
clinics that it runs, it is bigger than the city that I live in. 10 Million
square feet. Over 21,000 Employees. 129 buildings. And the helicopter makes
over 1,000 flights per year. Holy cow!

Fishing with Jason on the Huron July 11, 2010

Yes that is my guest, Jason. He is fishing for the first time ever, and got
initiated on the Huron River at the Hudson-Mills Metropark near Dexter MI.
If his reel had not dis-assembled itself, spilling it's parts into the
river, he might have been able to land that fish that wanted to get on his
hook!

Fly Fishing the Muskegon River near Cowdler Dam with our guide.

We fished the Muskegon River from the Croton Dam down to Pine Road. Kathy
and I caught multiple trout around 10-12" by stripping streamers and
drifting dries and topper-dropper rigs. Our guide was wonderful. Thank you
Nathan Hulst from Betts Fly Fishing Outfitters in Newaygo Michigan.

Flyfishing for trout in the Hersey River, July 5 2010

This is a stretch of the Hersey River that did not exist 5 years ago
according to a local resident. He said that recently two 100 year old dams
were removed and the river was restored to its original path. During
construction someone netted a 27" Brown Trout. Come to Papa, fishes!
Honestly I spent as much time untangling my line as I did fishing - but it
was a beautiful day anyway!

In the woods - Hersey Michigan July 5, 2010

Kathy spotted these cute turkey chicks in someone's lawn near Hersey
Michigan. Then we proceeded to wander around like turkeys and eventually ran
across this helpful sign in the woods. Well it was not too helpful,
actually.

Michigan cultural food July, 2010

Can you tell which dish is not a Michigan Original? Just kidding. The
Chinese food is from the "China One" Buffet in Big Rapids. The Mexican food
is from "El Burrito Loco", also in Big Rapids. The Mexican restaurant had an
extremely colorful interior. It also had Mexican polka music playing on the
loudspeakers, and other Mexican music was blaring from the kitchen.
Fantastic!

Rogers Dam near Big Rapids MI on July 4, 2010

According to the sign this power-plant which was built in 1906 is Consumer
Energy's Oldest Power Generating Plant in Michigan. There is a canoe portage
which looked like it would be a bit of a challenge.
