Johnson Creek - No trout today - June 3, 2012
Johnson Creek flows through the new "Coldwater Springs Nature Area" off of Ridge Road in Northville Michigan. This stretch of the creek was very brushy and had tons of logs and other structure that fish love, but makes fishing a challenge.. Don't bother fishing here with a fly-rod. Bring your ultra-light spinning rod, some hip waders, and a handful of nymphs, and plan on doing alot of climbing over downed trees and steep banks. Come here, Trout - I have a fly for you!

May 31 2012 Kent Lake - New fishing rod
Trying out my new fishing rod at Kent Lake. I needed a rod that would cast a distance from shore, and this one does the job. An 10-weight 7-foot Spinning Rod Combo with Berkley NanoFil Uni-Filimant line.The line is "Stronger than steel" and casts like a dream. Rod and Reel $20 and Line $16. Fishing experience: Priceless.

Trout Festival - Proud Lake Recreation Area - April 28, 2012
Lots of people having fun trying to catch a trout on opening day. This location was stocked with some real lunkers. I witnessed a few hefty ones being pulled from the water using various techniques. For the fly fishers, they had a month of catch and release flies only fishing, and I observed several doing just that. And now with the regular trout season open and the weather beginning to warm up, I hope to get out there and join them!

Berrien County in West Michigan - April, 2013
Been a long time since I fished the Pier at Benton Harbor, so spent an evening and morning there. Saw one guy land a fish well over 35" - you can see him netting it, but the fish is not visible due to poor cellphone camera resolution. Trust me, it was a monster. Also saw the contents of a fisherman's 5-gallon bucket: 2 HUGE channel catfish, I'll be back!
Also fished at the Berrien Springs Dam, where there is a well-known fish ladder. Saw fish jumping, but let them all stay in the water. -It was a wonderful day and fortunately I beat the storms that rolled through the area the following day. http://tinyurl.com/7x8wx65
